City Brew Tours Makes Inc. 5000 for Third Year Running

City Brew Tours staff celebrate a successful 2019 at the Annual All-Cities Meeting in Baltimore.

We are thrilled to announce that – for the third year in a row – City Brew Tours has earned a coveted spot on the Inc. 5000, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.

City Brew Tours’ revenue grew 83% over a three year period from 2016 to 2019, ranking 37th nationally among travel and tourism companies.

At the start of 2016, City Brew Tours operated tours in 4 markets: Burlington VT, Boston, Washington DC, and Philadelphia. By the end of 2019, the company had expanded operations nearly 3-fold to 9 corporate-owned operations and 2 franchise operations.

“Our team has earned this honor by putting in thousands of hours of hard work and drinking a lot of really great beer.”

-Chad Brodsky, Founder & CEO

In 2019 alone, City Brew Tours served more than 25,000 guests, grew our full time staff from 8 to 11, generated $3 million in revenue, and purchased a majority stake in BREWVANA®, a brewery tour operator out of Portland, Oregon.

“It has been amazing to watch City Brew Tours grow at the rate it has,” said Chad Brodsky, Founder and CEO. “Our team has earned this honor by putting in thousands of hours of hard work, and drinking a lot of really great beer.”

Even as the coronavirus pandemic lingers, City Brew Tours continues to add new craft beer experiences to its offerings. A third franchise operation will open later this year, and other franchise opportunities are being explored.

In April, we launched two online offerings, The Live Homebrew Experience and the Beer & Cheese Pairing Experience, which allow our guests to have just as much craft-beer-themed fun at home as they do on one of our brew tours. Both have been immensely popular, especially among corporate event planners looking for ways to bring their teams together virtually

“The 2020 list proves that no matter the sector, incredible growth is based on the foundations of tenacity and opportunism.”

-Scott Omelianuk, Inc. Editor-in-Chief

“The companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 come from nearly every realm of business,” said Inc. Editor-in-Chief Scott Omelianuk. “From health and software to media and hospitality, the 2020 list proves that no matter the sector, incredible growth is based on the foundations of tenacity and opportunism.”

The annual Inc. 5000 event honoring the companies on the list will be held virtually from October 23 to 27. As always, speakers will include some of the greatest innovators and business leaders of our generation.

About the Inc. 5000

The Inc. 5000 represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent small businesses. Intuit, Zappos, Under Armour, Microsoft, Patagonia, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000.

The 2020 list is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2016 and 2019. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2016. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2019.
