Brewvana Beer Concierge

At your service at Oregon Brewers Festival 2018

It is our passion to share our love and knowledge for craft beer in Portland with the world. All of our tours offer a beer education component- the opportunity for guests to learn about the ingredients in beer, brewing process and new styles, in addition to the history and culture of craft beer in Portland. They leave buzzing in the euphoric state of BREWVANA – with a new appreciation for craft beer, Portland and life. We are proud and excited to be partnering with the Oregon Brewers Festival and for the first time ever, offering beer education at the festival for attendees!

BREWVANA will host the Beer Concierge tent at the festival with resources and information. Thursday through Saturday (July 26th – July 28th), our tour guides will lead Beer 101 education along with a tour and tasting. The educational sessions will take place at 4 pm in the Concierge Tent and will be free for all festival attendees. The tasting experiences will take place at 6 pm in the Concierge Tent and will require 1 mug and 4 tokens. Each day will feature a different themed selection of beers.

Beer 101 answers the question “What IS beer?” by breaking beer down into its essential ingredients. It is a staple experience on any BREWVANA tour and provides basic knowledge for new drinkers and master brewers alike. Guests get to smell, touch, and taste grains and hops while being educated on how they all come together in the process to ultimately make beer.

The tasting experiences will offer a guided tasting of 4 beers, with discussion on each category:

Thursday’s experience will feature “Weird Beers.” On tap will be Wolf Tree’s Spruce Tip Gruit, an unfiltered ale brewed with Sitka spruce tips and no hops. Also available will be Old Town’s Green Tea Lemonade, Coin Toss’ Caught in a Pickle, and Sasquatch’s American Aquarium Drinker, a nontraditional Gose brewed with seaweed and squid ink.

Friday’s experience will feature “New England-style/Hazy Beers.” This unfiltered east coast style of pales and IPAs has completely taken over Oregon’s beer scene. On tap will be Deschutes’ Fruit Fight NE IPA, Fort George’s It takes two to Mango NE IPA, Hopworks’ Completely Excellent Hazy IPA, and pFriem’s Mango Milkshake.

Saturday’s experience will feature “Session Beers.” Sessions are low-alcohol beers meant for sharing and drinking all day with friends. On tap will be Ecliptic’s Flamingo Planet Guava Blonde, Upright’s Berliner Weisse, Royale Zonkey’s PNW Mexican Lager, and Buoy’ Beaver State Pilsner.

The concierge tent will have beer resources such as Brew Ha maps, Willamette Week beer guides, and Portland Mercury travel guides. BREWVANA staff will be there to answer any questions about beer on tap, breweries in Portland, beer ingredients and styles or for beer trivia fun. Beer resource packages will be provided at no cost to Airbnb hosts or VRBO owners interested in providing guests with info on how to navigate beer in Portland. There is no cost for the information and education, the tastings are just 4 tickets and a mug for the samples. Admission to the festival is all ages and free, get your tickets and experience BREWVANA in the Concierge Tent at the Oregon Brewers Festival.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with the Oregon Brewers Festival – it’s considered one of the nation’s longest-running and best-loved craft beer events! The outdoor festival will take place July 26 through July 29 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the west bank of the Willamette River. Taps are open from Noon to 9 pm Thursday through Saturday and Noon to 7 pm Sunday. The OBF will serve 80 craft beers from small, traditional, and independent craft breweries located in 10 different states, as well as The Netherlands, and Baja, California. The vibrant festival will also feature live music all four days with no cover charge, six food booths, beer-related vendors, souvenir sales, and homebrew demonstrations.

We are stoked to be a part of the Oregon Brewers Festival this year as the Beer Concierge and can’t wait to see you there!
