Portland has more breweries than any other city in the world and we are proud to call ourselves Beer City USA! When I started BREWVANA seven years ago, there were about 35 breweries in operation within Portland city limits. We now have over 75 breweries and that number continues to grow.
I drove for the first leg of The craft beer journey to visit 77 breweries in one day with Brian Yaeger and John Lovegrove. They were successful in their quest and filmed the entire day which was shown in the documentary PDX Brew City, which was directed by our very own Tour Manager Thom Roholt. This demonstrates the proximity of breweries in Portland, we are truly are blessed to have such a variety of amazing craft beer. But it’s not just the quantity that we are proud of. With the strong collaboration and community in Portland, these Brewers are innovative and always coming up with new and brilliant ideas. With the Pacific Northwest ingredients at their fingertips they have the resources they need to make amazing beers and they are damn good at it.
My friend and longtime tourism industry veteran Joseph Sundberg has been drinking craft beer in Portland since probably before he was legally allowed to drink it. I met him when I was working at Laurelwood but have gotten to know him better as I started my company BREWVANA and have builT relationships with the hotel community. Joseph has been a concierge at the Hotel Monaco for over 20 years and is one of the founders of the Portland Craft Beer Festival. Today marks the first day of the third annual event featuring only Portland made beer and cider. The festival is hosted at Fields Park in Northwest Portland, a beautiful venue for enjoying the outdoors while sipping on fresh delicious craft beverages. The vendors are all locally owned and operated and the event is all ages, so you can bring the whole family.
