Tree House Brewing Company is a little too far away for a Boston Brew Tour, but it is definitely a must-see if you find yourself near Charlton, Massachusetts! Their goal is to “make the best beer in the world and for it to be sold as freshly and ideally as possible,” says Tree House’s co-founder and brewer Nate Lanier. And the dedicated cult following that the brewery has amassed is proof that they are well on their way to achieving it.

Started in 2011 by four friends, Tree House Brewing is now making some of the tastiest, artful, and most coveted beer in the country. It’s famous for its flagship New England IPA called Julius, which was named one of the best beers in America. Tree House is also no stranger to best brewery lists, just as Zymurgy Magazine, who cited them as one of the best breweries in America.  Tree House Brewing has gained its notoriety through a relentless commitment to offering the best quality possible.

“Our attention to detail with each batch borders on fanatical,” they say, and this really shows in the incredible, award-winning brews that they produce. Because the brewery doesn’t distribute, making the trip is your only option to get your hands on some of the most exclusive and elusive craft beer in the game. On site, you’ll also be able to browse their shop, where you can find shirts, hoodies, dog leashes, glassware, and more! And if you pay them a visit on a Saturday, you’re likely to find live music and food trucks

Tree House name isn’t just a metaphor either, not only is there a real tree house on-site what is open for visitors to climb. They also do a lot to be as green as they can be. With a special focus on renewable power and agrarian support, they invest heavily in environmentally friendly practices and long-term sustainability.

Now, through a new investment made this February, they will be reducing their carbon footprint even more (by 21,668 metric tons to be exact). Clearly, they take their pledge to respect and invest in sustainability and the environment very seriously. With an industry-leading water to beer ratio, in addition to using groundbreaking technology in order to reduce typical pollutants and contaminants in their water stream by 99.9% which will result in water that is reusable.

No, it doesn’t stop there. The ambitious brewery is now operating its own farm! It is 100 acres of grazing pasture for cattle, flowers, an orchard full of heirloom apples, cherries, plums, an array of delicious berries and so much more! This Spring, the farm will be open and providing CSA shares to make all that uber-fresh and uber-local food available in the form of full or half shares, a flower share, or even a mushroom share! Sign-ups will begin soon!

Even if you’re not close enough to partake in a share, you’ll still appreciate the cider that they make from the apples in their orchard. The cider is freshly pressed from a Boomer and Boschert, a manual press from 1898 (don’t worry, it’s been maintained incredibly well over the years, and will offer you a sweet sip of history along with your cider.
